A tour of

reflection...

Teachers continuously improve their professional practice, model lifelong learning, and exhibit leadership in their school and professional community by promoting and demonstrating the effective use of digital tools and resources.

  • Participate in local and global learning communities to explore creative applications of technology to improve student learning.

  • Exhibit leadership by demonstrating a vision of technology infusion, participating in shared decision making and community building, and developing the leadership and technology skills of others.

  • Evaluate and reflect on current research and professional practice on a regular basis to make effective use of existing and emerging digital tools and resources in support of student learning.

  • Contribute to the effectiveness, vitality, and self-renewal of the teaching profession and of their school and community.

My Reflection

This standard requires engaging in professional growth and leadership. I feel this area can be an overlooked or undervalued. The program at USM has given me ideas and ways to continue making a contributing to the teaching profession. The above artifacts include:

(1) An extensive and comprehensive IT Plan. This plan exhibits leadership by demonstrating a vision of technology infusion, participating in shared decision making, and community building. The IT Plan outlines all phases and facets of technology infusion in my organization.

(2) A research review on the integration of YouTube. This research review evaluates and reflects on current research to make the effective use of existing and emerging digital tools and resources in support of student learning. YouTube has done its part in changing the classroom in my organization. Research such as this can help an educator evaluate professional practice to make better use of a digital tool such as YouTube.

(3) A research proposal done with a group of colleagues to research digital addiction, and its impact on the college population. This research proposal, and subsequent research conducted contributes to the effectiveness, vitality, and self-renewal of the teaching profession, school, and community. Understanding digital addiction can help in understanding the use of digital tools and the impact of using them in teaching and learning.

My Future Learning Goal

My future learning goals include furthering my participation in local and global communities. I would like to learn of even more opportunities for me to stay relevant and involved in what is happening in teaching, learning, and technology. Enrolling in this program was one step in my professional development, so upon graduation I will look for other ways to stay abreast. My goal is to continue to be able to speak intelligently about this subject.
